Hydro Dipping Technology for Sport Sunglasses
At Wooly, a premier sport sunglasses manufacturer specialising in OEM and ODM solutions, we integrate advanced hydro dipping (water transfer printing) technology into our production processes to offer stylish, durable, and fully customisable frames. This method allows sport sunglasses brands to stand out through vivid, high-definition patterns and unique surface finishes—without compromising performance.
What Is Hydro Dipping?
Hydro dipping, also known as water transfer printing, is a surface decoration technique that allows printed graphics to be applied to three-dimensional objects. It involves immersing an item into a water tank where a printed film floats on the surface and wraps seamlessly around the object. The result? A high-quality, uniform finish with stunning design precision.
How Hydro Dipping Works – Step-by-Step:
Base Coating
The sunglasses frame is first coated with a base color that complements the hydrographic film. This serves as the background layer for the pattern.Film Activation
A pre-printed PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) film with the desired design—such as carbon fiber, camouflage, marble, or abstract patterns—is floated on the surface of warm water in a dipping tank.Chemical Activation
An activator chemical is sprayed onto the film, dissolving the PVA and leaving the ink pattern suspended on the water's surface, ready for transfer.Dipping Process
The sunglasses frame is slowly and carefully dipped through the floating pattern. The water pressure allows the ink to adhere and conform to the contours of the frame.Rinsing & Drying
After dipping, the part is rinsed to remove any residual film, then dried thoroughly.Top Coating
A clear protective topcoat (matte, gloss, or semi-gloss) is applied to seal the pattern, improve durability, and provide UV and scratch resistance.
Why Choose Hydro Dipping for Sport Sunglasses?
Hydro dipping is particularly well-suited for sport eyewear due to its versatility and strength. It enables brands to match high-performance function with eye-catching style. From semi-rimless to full-frame designs, this process ensures consistent coverage—even over complex curves and contours—without adding significant weight to the frame.
At Wooly, we apply hydro dipping to a variety of materials including TR90, polycarbonate, and nylon, all of which are commonly used in sports eyewear manufacturing. Whether you're aiming for subtle texture or bold aesthetics, our in-house dipping facilities ensure precise pattern alignment, colour vibrancy, and long-term durability—even in sweat, heat, and UV-intense environments.
